Job summary

WellSense Health Plan is seeking a Principal Data Engineer to lead cloud data platform initiatives. This remote, senior IC role focuses on architecture and implementation using AWS services like Redshift, Glue, DMS, Lambda, and more.

Mentorship and cross-team collaboration are essential as you shape data solutions at scale. You will champion AI-assisted development with Claude Code, drive ETL/ELT pipelines, and influence architectural decisions across the organization.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or master's degree in software engineering, CS, or related field.
• 6+ years in data engineering, data warehousing, or analytics platforms.
• 5+ years of AWS cloud data engineering experience.
• Strong knowledge of Redshift, Glue, DMS, ETL/ELT development, SQL, and performance optimization.
• Experience with Python and Git-based version control.
• Experience with Claude Code or similar AI-assisted development.

Responsibilities

• Architect and optimize enterprise-scale AWS data warehouse and analytics solutions.
• Develop and maintain scalable data pipelines and integration solutions.
• Provide deep expertise in AWS data services (Redshift, Glue, DMS, S3, Lambda, IAM).
• Develop ETL/ELT pipelines using AWS Glue (Glue Jobs, Data Catalog).
• Champion AI-assisted development using Claude Code and related tools.
• Mentor data engineers on AWS technologies, cloud architecture, Agile, and software engineering best practices.
• Contribute to architectural decisions and technical roadmaps for the data platform.
• Conduct architecture reviews, code reviews, and knowledge-sharing sessions.
• Partner with architects, product owners, analysts, and other teams to solve complex problems.
