Job summary

Nordstrom Data Platform is seeking an engineer to design and develop scalable software applications, data pipelines, and database solutions in a real-time, streaming environment. You will apply scientific principles to deliver data solutions that support Nordstrom business users and leadership.

A day in the life includes leading projects, mentoring engineers, designing data solutions across modules, building distributed pipelines in the cloud, performing code reviews, and driving CI/CD

Qualifications

• 2+ years leading multi-engineer projects and mentoring junior engineers.
• 5+ years designing robust data pipelines and DB architectures.
• 5+ years programming in Java or Python.
• 5+ years with databases, SQL, and data modeling; GCP BigQuery a plus.
• 3+ years in cloud environments (GCP).
• 1+ year building near real-time distributed data processing (Kafka, Flink, Spark, DynamoDB, Airflow).
• 1+ year experience in distributed event-driven systems and AI-assisted tools.
• Strong data engineering practices and operational excellence.

Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor engineers on scalable data projects.
• Design durable data solutions for business needs in a multi-module ecosystem.
• Build and optimize distributed data pipelines in the cloud.
• Review code and enforce software engineering standards.
• Develop CI/CD tooling and automated testing to speed delivery.
• Improve data quality, performance, and observability.
• Collaborate with product, data science, and analytics teams.
• Apply AI-powered tools to accelerate development and support.
