Job summary

The City of Seattle Information Technology (IT) Department is seeking a Senior Data Engineer to support the Seattle Police Department’s Data Analytics Platform (DAP) and related data systems. This role provides technical leadership across data engineering and data science for reliable, scalable analytics in public safety.

Hybrid telework with at least three onsite days per week is available. You will build scalable pipelines, manage AWS resources, and collaborate with data scientists,

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, business information systems, database management or a related degree; equivalent experience considered.
• 5+ years with database technologies, SQL, scripting, performance optimization and ETL/ELT tools.
• 4+ years delivering data solutions including data warehouses and analytics models.
• 3+ years designing reliable, observable data pipelines and implementing CI/CD.
• 3+ years designing architectures for large-scale analytics with AWS services (CloudFormation, S3, Glue, Python, Spark, Lambda, Athena).
• Agile experience with Jira/Confluence/SharePoint/Teams.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain scalable, secure data pipelines and ETL/ELT processes.
• Ensure pipeline observability, testability, reliability, and automation via CI/CD.
• Plan and implement improvements across AWS analytics systems and on-premises stores.
• Provision and optimize AWS data resources.
• Collaborate with data scientists, architects, developers and stakeholders to deliver data products.
• Document pipelines, architecture, and data models clearly.
• Review code, mentor teammates, and enforce data standards.
• Monitor data quality and schema evolution; address security vulnerabilities.
• Research and present future analytics solutions to leadership.
