Job summary

GS1 Global Office seeks a Senior Data Engineer to design, build and operate data pipelines using Microsoft Fabric, Azure data services and Power BI in a hybrid environment in New Jersey.

The role combines data engineering, BI and AI-enabled solution development with production support, offering technical leadership and governance across data products for GS1 Global Office and Member Organisations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, data engineering, information systems or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
• At least five years of experience in data engineering, BI or analytics, including production solutions.
• Strong experience with Microsoft Fabric, or Azure Synapse, Databricks or similar cloud analytics platforms.
• Strong experience developing Power BI reports, semantic models and datasets.
• Advanced SQL skills and experience with Azure SQL or similar relational databases.
• Experience building ETL/ELT using Azure Data Factory, Microsoft Fabric Data Pipelines or similar tools.
• Experience with dimensional modelling, data warehousing and enterprise semantic models, including DAX.
• Proficiency with Python and/or PySpark for data processing and automation.
• Experience with embeddings, vector search and retrieval patterns plus LLM APIs like Claude/OpenAI.
• Experience with source control, CI/CD and production monitoring.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain scalable data pipelines using Microsoft Fabric and Azure data services.
• Build Lakehouse, Data Warehouse and semantic models with reusable design patterns.
• Develop data integration processes via Microsoft Fabric Data Pipelines, Azure Data Factory and APIs.
• Support migration and modernisation of Microsoft Fabric and Azure analytics services.
• Design AI-enabled retrieval-augmented generation pipelines with Claude AI and other LLMs.
• Create data prep, embedding and indexing for AI-enabled search and analytics.
• Ensure data security, governance, lineage and metadata management.
• Provide technical leadership and governance across data architecture decisions.
• Develop automated testing, CI/CD and production monitoring for pipelines and reports.
• Collaborate with stakeholders across GS1 globally.
