Job summary

Abbott is seeking a Senior Database Engineer II for the Infectious Disease unit at the Towne Centre site in San Diego. This on-site role focuses on building scalable data pipelines and modern data platforms to support diagnostic health initiatives.

You will lead data integration efforts, work with Azure-based services (Data Factory, Synapse, Databricks, Snowflake), and guide governance, testing, and cross-functional collaboration across geographically dispersed teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or equivalent.
• 7+ years of experience in software development involving database design.
• Experience delivering medical device products is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain scalable data pipelines and data integration processes using Azure Data Factory.
• Serve as the primary technical contact for system integration efforts with internal and external teams.
• Lead the design, selection, and implementation of modern data platforms and analytics solutions (Databricks, Azure OneLake, Azure Synapse, Snowflake).
• Design and implement data models (conceptual, logical, physical) for cloud environments.
• Provide technical leadership for SIT and UIT testing of enterprise IT systems.
• Design and support multi-tenant database architectures and sharding strategies.
• Develop data engineering standards, governance, and best practices across teams.
• Perform code reviews and design reviews to ensure quality and standards.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to deliver reliable, scalable data solutions.
• Share expertise and educate teammates on modern data engineering concepts.
