Job summary

Paystack is seeking a Senior Data Engineer to design and manage data pipelines, streaming and analytics platforms in a remote-first setting. You will collaborate with data scientists, analysts, and stakeholders to deliver scalable data solutions.

You will work with Kafka, Airflow, Terraform, Kubernetes, and cloud services to ensure data quality, reliability, and performance across our data platforms. A strong Python background is essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related field.
• Proficiency in Python is essential; JavaScript/Scala advantageous.
• Minimum 3 years in data engineering building data pipelines.
• Minimum 2 years in software/application development roles.
• Hands-on experience with Kafka, Debezium, Kafka Connect.
• Proficiency with orchestration tools like Airflow, Databricks, Dagster or Airbyte.
• Strong knowledge of MySQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Redshift.
• Experience with Terraform, Kubernetes, Helm for infra management.
• Solid SQL skills across dialects.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines.
• Exposure to analytics systems and basic ML concepts.
• Experience with Tableau/Looker/DOMO.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain robust data pipelines using ETL/ELT to feed data lakes and warehouses.
• Implement real-time data streaming using Kafka ecosystems.
• Build and maintain workflows with Apache Airflow for timely data delivery.
• Work with relational, NoSQL, and analytical data stores (MySQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Redshift, BigQuery).
• Use Terraform, Kubernetes, and Helm to provision infrastructure.
• Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines and ensure code quality through testing.
• Collaborate with data scientists, analysts, and stakeholders to meet data needs.
• Document data processes, workflows, and systems.
