Job summary

The Los Angeles Lakers are seeking a Senior Data Engineer for the Basketball Data Strategy team in El Segundo. You will architect, build, and maintain a cloud data platform supporting ingestion, transformation, storage, and analytics for on-court and off-court data.

Collaborating with Data Science, Analytics, and Software teams, you will drive data quality, scalability, and performance, enabling advanced modeling and visualization for basketball insights.

Qualifications

• 6+ years in a similar data engineering role.
• Expert relational DB design: SQL Server, PostgreSQL, Snowflake.
• Experience with greenfield builds or major migrations on AWS.
• Airflow workflow orchestration experience.
• Docker and Kubernetes container tech.
• Python and SQL proficiency; data transformation tools.
• Big data handling of high-precision location/movement data.
• DevOps and CI/CD for data/ML infra.
• NBA basketball knowledge is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Architect and oversee basketball data ecosystem and sources.
• Design, build, and maintain automated data pipelines with Airflow.
• Lead platform optimization, migrations, and storage/partitioning strategies.
• Evaluate emerging technologies for storage and compute.
• Optimize 3D tracking data ingestion and processing.
• Ensure data quality with validation, lineage, and alerts.
• Collaborate with Data Science, Analytics, and Software teams.
