Job summary

The Center for Academic Innovation (CAI) at the University of Michigan is seeking a highly qualified Data Engineer Senior to join our growing Data and BI team. As we expand our Data, BI, and AI/ML capabilities, this newly created role will be instrumental in designing, implementing, and optimizing a world-class data infrastructure.

You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to translate complex business needs into robust data solutions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required; CS/DI related field preferred.
• 5+ years in data engineering or data architecture.
• Expert-level dimensional modeling and data warehousing.
• Deep experience with ELT and cloud data platforms (Snowflake, Matillion).
• Proven ability to design and scale complex data pipelines.
• Strong problem-solving, collaboration and stakeholder engagement.
• Ability to lead initiatives from design to deployment and manage multiple projects with Asana.
• Ability to adopt new technologies including AI-enabled tools per university policies.

Responsibilities

• Architect end-to-end data warehousing solutions across diverse systems.
• Design scalable, resilient data architectures across cloud platforms.
• Establish standards for data modeling, pipelines and documentation.
• Lead performance tuning and cost optimization of Snowflake and related tools.
• Partner with Engineering, Online Learning, XR and other teams to translate needs.
• Mentor data engineers and foster a culture of rigor and collaboration.
• Evaluate emerging technologies, including AI-enabled tools, for pipelines.
