Job summary

Capital One is seeking a Sr. Staff Data Engineer (Remote-Eligible) to join the Pipelines and External Data team within Enterprise Data. You will lead data platform strategy, drive innovation, and mentor engineers while delivering scalable, governed data solutions.

You will work with AWS, Lakehouse, Kafka, Flink, Spark, Snowflake, and Databricks to mature enterprise-scale systems and enable data availability across business units.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or a related quantitative field (Statistics, Economics, Operations Research, Analytics, Mathematics, Engineering)
• At least 9 years of experience in data engineering
• At least 5 years of experience in data architecture
• At least 3 years of experience building applications in AWS
• At least 7 years of experience programming with Python, Java, or Scala
• At least 6 years of experience designing and developing data pipelines
• At least 4 years of experience in data modeling and designing end-to-end data solutions

Responsibilities

• Build awareness, increase knowledge and drive adoption of modern technologies within Capital One.
• Influence stakeholders across the enterprise to gain buy-in for data initiatives.
• Promote a culture of engineering excellence and reuse solutions where possible.
• Communicate effectively with senior leaders and technical teams alike.
• Act as a trusted advisor for a technology domain and shape use cases accordingly.
• Mentor engineers and recruit to strengthen Capital One’s tech talent.
• Drive the data engineering practice strategy and roadmap for data platforms and AI.
• Lead alignment across multiple data systems to enable scalable data flows.
