Waystar is seeking a Senior Data Engineer to join the Business Data & Architecture team, focusing on the Data Modernization program on Google Cloud Platform. You will design, build, and optimize scalable data solutions that enable analytics, reporting, governance, and AI initiatives across the enterprise.

The role requires hands-on expertise in GCP, BigQuery, dbt, ELT development, and modern engineering practices.

Qualifications

• 5+ years in Data Engineering or related technical discipline.
• Hands-on with Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and BigQuery.
• Strong skills in dbt, SQL, Python, and data modeling.
• Experience building scalable ELT pipelines and APIs.
• Familiarity with CI/CD and GitHub workflows.
• Knowledge of data governance, quality, and observability.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and optimize scalable ELT pipelines into BigQuery using Fivetran, APIs, Python, and cloud-native services.
• Develop bronze, silver, and gold data layers following Medallion Architecture.
• Create and maintain reusable dbt models for enterprise reporting and self-service use cases.
• Design scalable ingestion patterns for structured and semi-structured data.
• Troubleshoot data pipelines, transformations, and performance issues.
• Improve pipeline reliability, performance, and maintainability.
