Job summary

Float is seeking a Staff Software Engineer (Architecture) to own data pipelines and ML-enabled features for the Intelligence stack. You will partner with a distributed team to implement robust ETL, data quality, and scalable architectures that support event-driven workflows.

You will contribute to the data platform by building pipelines, ensuring reliability, and aligning with architectural decisions across the data domain.

Qualifications

• Applied ML/AI in production: shipped ML/AI features used by customers; ongoing ownership.
• Pipeline ownership and debugging: owned end-to-end data pipelines; understands lineage, logs, and data quality.
• Feature delivery: data work feeds customer-facing features, not just internal tooling.
• TypeScript/Node.js: production-level TS codebases; strong typing and debugging.
• SQL: complex analytical queries with cost/performance awareness; MongoDB familiarity is a plus.
• Software engineering practices: design before coding, tests, code reviews; AI tools used responsibly.
• Documentation and written communication: write-ups and asynchronous updates.
• Warehouse modelling: familiar with dbt and cloud warehouses (BigQuery/Snowflake).
• Optimization and scheduling: Timefold, OR-Tools; interest matters more than prior exposure.

Responsibilities

• Intelligence pipeline ownership: end-to-end pipelines powering NextGen features.
• Applied ML in production: contribute to AI features, build reliable data infra.
• Pipeline health and maintenance: ensure reliability and documentation with Data team.
• Event-driven architecture: aid introduction of event streaming (Kafka/Debezium).
• Scheduling optimisation: work with Timefold and the scheduling domain.
• Cross-team data impact: improve pipelines and infrastructure across teams.
