Job summary

LegalZoom is seeking a Staff Data Engineer to design, build, and scale robust data pipelines that power our products and analytics. You will work with Data Science, Engineering, and Product to deliver high-impact data solutions and mentor others on the team.

In this hybrid role, you will be designing data models, leading best practices in CI/CD and data quality, and collaborating with stakeholders to align technical decisions with business goals.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of experience in data engineering or a related field.
• Expert-level proficiency in SQL, with deep experience in data modeling and transformation.
• Hands-on experience with dbt for data transformation and modeling.
• Experience orchestrating data workflows using Airflow.
• Experience building and maintaining data pipelines with Fivetran, including custom connector development.
• Proficiency in Python for data engineering tasks.
• Experience with cloud data warehouses (e.g., Snowflake, Redshift, BigQuery) and modern data stack tools.
• Strong understanding of ETL/ELT best practices, data quality, and data governance.
• Ability to architect and deliver highly available, scalable, and extensible solutions.
• Excellent problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills.
• Experience mentoring and leading engineering teams in an Agile environment.
• A strong understanding of business and product goals, and the ability to align your technical decisions to them.
• Remote employees should confirm that the internet service available has adequate bandwidth to support all work processes.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and scale scalable data pipelines using dbt, Snowflake, Airflow, and Fivetran.
• Architect net new data models to support business needs, ensuring high availability, performance, and extensibility.
• Lead the adoption and integration of modern data engineering best practices, including CI/CD, data quality, and observability.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to gather requirements, guide technical decisions, and deliver data solutions that align with business goals.
• Mentor and guide other data engineers and data scientists, fostering a culture of technical excellence and continuous learning.
• Participate in code reviews, architecture discussions, and technical decision-making.
• Stay current with industry trends and emerging technologies, advocating for best practices.
• Participate in an on-call rotation to address high priority incidents.
• Occasional travel may be required as needed.
