Job summary

LegalZoom is seeking a Staff Data Engineer to design and scale robust data pipelines that power our products and analytics. You will partner with Data Science, Engineering, and Product to deliver high-impact solutions, mentor teammates, and advance technical excellence across the organization.

You will design data models, lead data quality and governance efforts, and contribute to architecture discussions while maintaining an on-call readiness.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of experience in data engineering or a related field.
• Expert-level proficiency in SQL with data modeling/transformation experience.
• Hands-on experience with dbt for transformation and modeling.
• Experience orchestrating data workflows using Airflow.
• Experience with Fivetran including custom connectors.
• Proficiency in Python for data engineering tasks.
• Experience with Snowflake/Redshift/BigQuery and modern data stack tools.
• Strong understanding of ETL/ELT, data quality, and governance.
• Ability to architect scalable, available solutions.
• Excellent problem-solving and collaboration skills.
• Experience mentoring teams in Agile environments.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable data pipelines and ETL processes.
• Architect new data models to support business needs with high availability and performance.
• Lead adoption of data engineering best practices including CI/CD and observability.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to gather requirements and deliver data solutions.
• Mentor and guide data engineers and data scientists in the team.
• Participate in code reviews and technical decision-making.
• Stay current with industry trends and advocate best practices.
• Join on-call rotations to address high-priority incidents.
• Occasional travel may be required.
