Job summary

Hitachi Rail is seeking a Senior Data Engineer to serve as a technical lead for enterprise data engineering delivery for Hitachi Federal customers. Based in Washington, VA on an onsite schedule, this role supports professional services engagements by guiding solution design, implementation, integration, and continuous improvement across the delivery lifecycle.

In this position, you will lead complex technical work from early design through implementation, coordinate architecture planning activities, and act as a primary escalation point for technical delivery. You will also contribute to service and innovation development while mentoring engineers and partnering with cross-functional teams to resolve customer issues and improve operational efficiency.

• Review Statements of Work (SOWs), technical design documents, delivery checklists, and implementation plans.
• Develop customer-facing architecture documentation, implementation guides, and technical deliverables.
• Communicate project status and technical risks to customers and internal stakeholders.
• Design and develop Java-based applications, APIs, integrations, and automation solutions.
• Develop reusable software components, plugins, and integration frameworks.
• Design scalable enterprise data pipelines and data orchestration workflows.
• Implement RESTful API integrations between enterprise systems.
• Optimize application performance, scalability, and reliability; troubleshoot complex enterprise software and infrastructure issues.
• Support knowledge sharing through documentation, training sessions, and peer mentoring.
• Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance across the Professional Services organization.
• Collaborate with Sales Engineers during customer purses and technical presentations.
• Partner with Product, Support, and Engineering teams to resolve complex customer issues.
