Job summary

Grid Dynamics in Atlanta, USA seeks a Staff-level Data & Backend Engineering Lead to steer a large enterprise transformation. You will balance technical leadership with hands-on backend development, data engineering and production troubleshooting, guiding multiple teams across regions.

Qualifications

• Staff/Lead-level engineering experience on a large-scale enterprise transformation or modernization program.
• Deep Google Cloud data engineering expertise with end-to-end data integration and lineage/traceability.
• Experience with GCP integration/orchestration technologies such as Pub/Sub, GCS, Cloud Scheduler, Cloud Run/Functions and Composer/Airflow.

Responsibilities

• Lead technical architecture, solution design and engineering execution across backend and data engineering workstreams.
• Translate complex data engineering and integration requirements into technical user stories, tasks and acceptance criteria in JIRA.
• Drive technical execution across multiple parallel development streams and US/APAC engineering teams.
• Provide hands-on development and troubleshooting using Java/Spring Boot, GCP and BigQuery.
• Own/review data integration patterns involving BigQuery, Dataflow, Pub/Sub, GCS, Cloud Scheduler, Cloud Run/Functions and Composer/Airflow.
• Ensure traceability of data movement into, within and out of BigQuery, including production issue troubleshooting.
• Establish and enforce engineering best practices across SDLC, Git branching, merge/release strategy, CI/CD.
• Lead code/design reviews and mentor engineers on engineering standards and decision-making.
• Drive quality through unit, integration, automation and data-validation testing.

Job description

We are looking for a Staff-level Data & Backend Engineering Lead to provide technical leadership for a large-scale enterprise transformation program. This role is approximately 60% technical leadership, architecture, design and engineering reviews / 40% hands-on engineering.

The ideal candidate has previously played a lead technical role in a complex enterprise modernization or transformation, while remaining hands-on with backend development, data engineering and production troubleshooting.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead technical architecture, solution design and engineering execution across backend and data engineering workstreams.
• Translate complex data engineering and integration requirements into well-defined technical user stories, tasks and acceptance criteria in JIRA, enabling effective execution by the development team.
• Drive technical execution across multiple parallel development streams and US/APAC engineering teams.
• Provide hands-on development and troubleshooting using Java/Spring Boot, GCP and BigQuery.
• Own/review data integration patterns involving BigQuery, Dataflow, Pub/Sub, GCS, Cloud Scheduler, Cloud Run/Functions and Composer/Airflow.
• Ensure clear traceability of data movement into, within and out of BigQuery, including troubleshooting complex data integration and production issues.
• Establish and enforce engineering best practices across SDLC, Git branching, merge/release strategy, CI/CD and environment promotion, particularly where multiple teams are developing and releasing concurrently.
• Lead code/design reviews and mentor engineers on engineering standards and technical decision-making.
• Drive quality through strong unit, integration, automation and data-validation testing practices.

Must-Have Experience

• Staff/Lead-level engineering experience on a large-scale enterprise transformation or modernization programinvolving multiple systems, datasets and parallel workstreams.
• Deep Google Cloud data engineering expertise, particularly BigQuery and Dataflow, with strong understanding of end-to-end data integration and lineage/traceability.
• Experience with GCP integration/orchestration technologies such as Pub/Sub, GCS, Cloud Scheduler, Cloud Run/Functions and Composer/Airflow.
• SME-level understanding of SDLC and Git branching/release strategies for complex, multi-threaded development environments.
• Strong experience establishing and reviewing unit tests, automated integration tests and data-validation automation.
• Demonstrated ability to lead architecture/design reviews, code reviews, production troubleshooting and technical mentoring while remaining hands-on.
