Job summary

The J.M. Smucker Company in Orrville, OH is seeking a Senior Scientist (Process Engineer – Data Scientist) to lead data-driven manufacturing improvements across baked dough sheeting, mixing, slicing, and depositing processes.

You will develop predictive models, build data pipelines, mentor engineers, and bridge process engineering with data science to boost efficiency and product quality. Hybrid work 50% with travel up to 30%, bachelor’s/master’s in engineering, 10+ years data science experience

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Engineering (Chemical preferred).
• 10+ years in Data Science/Engineering/Research & Development.
• 2+ years applying Statistical/ML predictive methods.
• Ability to communicate complex concepts across teams.
• Strong critical thinking and problem solving.
• Experience with data science in manufacturing/bev/food is a plus.
• Proficient in R and/or Python; SQL relational data.

Responsibilities

• Lead data science efforts to model process systems and predict outcomes.
• Develop and apply predictive modeling for manufacturing processes.
• Build data pipelines and collaborate with IS team.
• Mentor junior engineers and technologists.
• Contribute to process understanding and manufacturing efficiency.
