ABB Inc. is seeking a Data Center Sr. PLC Technician to lead on-site commissioning, maintenance, and troubleshooting of paralleling switchgear and PLC-based controls in mission-critical power applications.

This highly travel-intensive role requires guiding junior engineers and coordinating complex field activities nationwide. The candidate will configure generator controls, protections, and communications, while interpreting schematics and coordinating with customers.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED with 7+ years of field experience, or an Associate/Bachelor degree with 5+ years in a related field.
• Demonstrated capability on highly complex field assignments.
• Extensive travel within the United States for customer sites.
• Ability to read and redline electrical/control drawings and apply engineering methods in the field.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and customer communication skills.
• Authorization to work in the United States without ABB sponsorship.

Responsibilities

• Plan, organize, and execute complex field assignments for paralleling switchgear and PLC/Relay schemes during startup, maintenance, and commissioning.
• Lead testing of emergency power systems and transitions (open/closed, load add/shed, paralleling).
• Configure and troubleshoot generator controls, protective relays, PLCs, HMIs, and communications.
• Perform advanced troubleshooting of PLC ladder logic, I/O, and ACS parameters using engineering docs and change control.
• Establish and troubleshoot Modbus, PLC-to-PLC, remote PLC, PLc-to-ACS, and BMS/EPMS/SCADA communications.
• Interpret one-line diagrams, schematics, and commissioning procedures.
• Lead on-site execution, coordinate daily work, manage punch lists, and ensure on-time project completion.
• Mentor junior field engineers and technicians; coach on safe execution and customer communication.
• Act as senior escalation resource for on-site remote troubleshooting and emergency response.
