Job summary

ABB is seeking a Data Center Sr. PLC Technician to lead on-site and remote field services for paralleling switchgear, PLC controls, and power systems in mission-critical environments.

You will direct complex start-ups, mentor junior staff, and coordinate with customers, engineers, and contractors across nationwide sites. This role requires extensive travel across the United States, strong electrical and control drawing skills, and the ability to work at customer sites for extended periods.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED with 7+ years of field experience, or an associate/bachelor degree with 5+ years in related field.
• Demonstrated independent field capability on highly complex assignments.
• Advanced experience with LV/MV switchgear, breakers, relays, generator controls, PLC-based controls, HMIs/ACS.

Responsibilities

• Plan, organize, and execute complex field assignments involving Paralleling Switchgear and PLC/Relay transfer schemes.
• Lead testing of emergency/standby power systems including transfer sequences and coordination.
• Configure and troubleshoot generator controls, protective relays, HMIs, and communications.
• Perform PLC ladder logic modifications using approved engineering docs and change-control practices.
• Establish and troubleshoot Modbus, PLC-to-PLC, remote PLC, BMS/EPMS/SCADA links.
• Interpret diagrams and commissioning procedures and lead on-site execution.
• Mentor junior engineers/technicians on safety, documentation, and customer communication.
