Job summary

Amazon is seeking a Data Center Operations Cluster Manager in Sterling, VA to lead a large data center team and drive performance across safety, availability, and efficiency. You will manage data center managers and hourly staff, shaping strategy while rolling up your sleeves to tackle day-to-day priorities.

The role requires experience in data center IT infrastructure, AWS knowledge, and a track record of strategic leadership with hands-on team development.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree, or 5+ years of people management experience.
• 3+ years of change management experience.
• Experience with technology risk, IT security audit, compliance and/or relevant regulatory knowledge.
• Experience in data mining, data management, reporting, and SQL queries.

Responsibilities

• Lead and supervise a team of Data Center Managers (3-9 front-line supervisors depending on location) and 75-150 hourly associates within Regional Data Centers.
• Attainment of organizational performance goals and objectives relating to safety, security, availability, scaling, and efficiency in support of our data center operations.
• Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and procedures.
• Accountability for meeting and exceeding operational goals.
• Strategic planning and forecasting; appraise performance; reward and discipline employees; resolve problems; and address staffing needs.
• Obsess over team learning and development, both from a technical/functional and soft skills (critical thinking, emotional intelligence, and adaptability) development perspective including mentoring and training.
• Develop, improve, and share operational best practices across the globe.
• Hiring, managing, and developing the operations management team including data center managers and data center operations technicians.
• Planning and executing the Infrastructure Operations component of new AWS data center build-outs, new colocation build-outs, AWS data center expansions, and colocation expansions, including the network and server rack infrastructure to facilitate the daily operations.
• Experience in successful insourcing and/or outsourcing specific task balancing internal skillsets with frugality.
• Continuous improvement of operational processes, procedures, methods, and tools.
