Job summary

DigitalOcean is seeking a Senior Design Infrastructure Engineer to lead hardware development and automation across its data-center stack. You will design scalable hardware, automate processes, and work with vendors to onboard new components for a growing cloud platform.

You’ll collaborate with multiple teams, improve firmware automation, and mentor others in best practices. The role demands hands-on Linux work, scripting in Python/Go, and strong communication.

Qualifications

• BS CS/Engineering or equivalent practical experience.
• Strong understanding of x86 server hardware architecture.
• Hands-on experience designing, implementing, and maintaining liquid-cooled server solutions.
• Experience automating server components at large-scale using tooling (Redfish, IPMI, etc.).
• Practical knowledge of PXE boot, UEFI, Linux boot, OpenBMC/BMC implementations, RAID and networking.

Responsibilities

• Lead hardware design projects with internal stakeholders.
• Coordinate with vendors on hardware onboarding and delivery.
• Develop hardware development roadmap to support product requirements.
• Create tools/processes to orchestrate hardware platform scaling.
• Mentor team members on configuration management and documentation.
• Participate in 24/7 on-call rotation and triage hardware issues.
