Job summary

Amtrak is seeking a Senior Data Information Engineer to lead enterprise data modeling and information engineering across Transportation Operations systems. The role defines and governs shared information models, schemas, and data contracts to enable interoperable, trustworthy data exchange across legacy and modern platforms.

The candidate will establish semantic definitions, drive portfolio-wide information modeling frameworks, and oversee data governance, security, and performance requirements.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated experience designing and governing enterprise information models, conceptual/logical/physical data models, schemas, and data standards across complex, highly integrated environments.
• Experience integrating information across multiple operational applications and systems.
• Transportation, railroad, logistics, transit, or similarly complex domain experience preferred.
• Bachelor’s degree required; 15+ years of related work experience.

Responsibilities

• Own portfolio-wide information modeling framework for data in motion and at rest; ensure alignment with standards and security requirements.
• Lead creation of standardized data models, including database, event, and API contracts.
• Design, develop, and maintain conceptual, logical, and physical data models and schemas to support business needs.
• Translate complex operational concepts into precise data definitions and models for multiple systems.
• Establish and govern schema lifecycle and evolution across databases, APIs, and event streams.
