Job description

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Dairy Business Advisor based in the United States.

As a Senior Dairy Business Advisor, you will serve as a trusted consultant to dairy farm owners, helping them strengthen profitability, improve financial performance, and navigate changing agricultural markets. You will develop tailored business and risk management strategies that support informed decision-making and long-term financial resilience. Working closely with dairy producers and cross-functional teams, you will translate complex financial data, market trends, and risk factors into practical, actionable recommendations. You will also drive the adoption of innovative consulting tools, educational programs, and solutions designed to create measurable value for dairy businesses. Through industry engagement, thought leadership, and relationship building, you will contribute to the advancement of financial and risk management practices across the dairy sector.

This full-time, virtual opportunity is ideal for an experienced agricultural professional who combines strong analytical expertise with a passion for helping farmers succeed. Candidates residing in Minnesota or Wisconsin are preferred, with extensive travel required throughout the assigned territory.

Accountabilities
  • Financial and Risk Management Consulting: Deliver customized financial and risk management consulting services to dairy farm owners, using specialized tools and resources to assess business performance, identify vulnerabilities, and improve profitability.
  • Risk Mitigation Strategies: Develop and recommend tailored solutions, including Dairy Revenue Protection (DRP), Livestock Risk Protection (LRP), forward contracting, and other revenue and margin management strategies to help producers navigate market volatility.
  • Business Analysis and Planning: Analyze farm financial statements, production costs, market conditions, and business performance to provide actionable recommendations that support sound financial decisions and sustainable growth.
  • Trusted Advisor Relationships: Build and maintain long-term relationships with dairy producers and cooperative members, serving as their primary point of contact for financial consulting, risk management, and business planning services.
  • Producer Education and Thought Leadership: Develop and deliver educational materials, presentations, and insights on dairy farm profitability, financial management, and risk mitigation to help producers strengthen their business knowledge.
  • On-Farm Collaboration: Facilitate on-farm profit team meetings, bringing together relevant stakeholders to evaluate business performance, identify improvement opportunities, and implement practical solutions.
  • Industry Analysis and Insights: Prepare industry and membership financial analyses, market insights, and reports to support strategic decisions, member engagement initiatives, and broader risk management priorities.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with internal teams and business units to identify member needs, develop integrated solutions, and improve business performance across the agricultural value chain.
  • Program and Service Development: Contribute field insights, member feedback, and recommendations to the development and continuous improvement of consulting tools, services, and programs.
  • Product and Program Implementation: Lead the rollout and adoption of new tools, programs, and member solutions across the assigned territory, supporting initiatives focused on sustainability, profitability, and business management.
  • Industry Representation: Represent the organization at agricultural conferences, trade shows, industry meetings, educational programs, and member events to strengthen relationships and establish credibility within the dairy industry.
  • Business Development: Identify opportunities to expand consulting services, strengthen member engagement, and drive adoption through consultative sales, relationship management, and collaboration with relevant business partners.
Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in agriculture, agricultural economics, dairy science, business, finance, or a related discipline, or equivalent relevant professional experience.
  • Professional Experience: At least five years of experience in the dairy or agricultural industry, with demonstrated expertise in risk management, agricultural finance, consulting, insurance, marketing, or business management.
  • Financial and Risk Management Expertise: Strong understanding of dairy farm financial statements, cost-of-production analysis, agricultural markets, revenue protection, and risk management strategies.
  • Consultative Sales and Business Development: Proven ability to identify customer needs, develop tailored solutions, build trusted relationships, and generate business value through consultative selling.
  • Market Knowledge: Understanding of dairy industry economics, agricultural commodity markets, and the financial and operational factors that influence farm profitability.
  • Analytical Skills: Strong financial analysis, problem-solving, and critical-thinking capabilities, with the ability to interpret complex information and translate it into practical business recommendations.
  • Communication and Presentation: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including experience explaining complex financial and market concepts to diverse audiences in an accessible and actionable manner.
  • Relationship Management: Demonstrated ability to establish credibility with dairy producers, influence stakeholders, and maintain productive long-term business relationships.
  • Cross-Functional Leadership: Ability to collaborate effectively across teams and business units, coordinate initiatives, and drive results without relying solely on direct authority.
  • Adaptability and Initiative: A proactive, commercially minded approach, with the ability to manage competing priorities, respond to evolving market conditions, and identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
