Job summary

The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs seeks a Lead Cytotechnologist to plan and direct cytology operations in the Anatomic Pathology department. You will oversee specimen send-out, supervise cytology staff, and ensure high quality cellular evaluations for abnormal cell detection.

Responsibilities include managing daily workflow, developing SOPs, coordinating trainings, and ensuring CAP-compliant documentation and reporting.

Qualifications

• Must have a baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited college/university and completed a CAHEP-accredited cytotechnology program.
• Must possess Cytotechnologist (CT) or Specialist in Cytotechnology (SCT) certification (ASCP).
• Citizenship per VA policy; US citizenship preferred for federal appointment.

Responsibilities

• Plan, direct and carry out functions for the cytology area with oversight of specimen send-out.
• Monitor processing of cytology preparations and quality control measures.
• Establish procedure manuals and forms to meet regulatory needs.
• Research, test, validate and implement new procedures and equipment.
• Monitor abnormal results, notify physician when necessary, and document per CAP.
