Job description

The Customer Quality Engineer is responsible for coordinating the timely investigation and resolution of AutoStore product and service non‑conformances. Working as part of an AutoStore non‑conformance investigation team, the Customer Quality Engineer will ensure that both the immediate and root causes of the non‑conformance are understood, and that the corrective actions are effective in preventing a reoccurrence. The Customer Quality Engineer will work across all departments of AutoStore to ensure that each non‑conformance investigation team is correctly staffed and that corrective actions are implemented on time, with minimal disruption to our partners and customers. Success in this role requires a practical and hands‑on quality professional who can drive improvements in a fast‑growing organization. We are looking for someone who can apply quality principles with sound judgment, focus on solving real business problems, and continuously improve processes without creating unnecessary complexity.

Key Responsibilities
Customer Quality and Problem Solving
  • Lead end‑to‑end investigation and resolution of product and service non‑conformances at customer sites.
  • Facilitate cross‑functional root‑cause analysis using structured problem‑solving methodologies such as 5 Why, 8D, and similar approaches.
  • Define, coordinate, and verify corrective and preventive actions to ensure effective and timely resolution.
Continuous Improvement
  • Analyze quality and operational data to identify trends, recurring issues, and improvement opportunities.
  • Apply Lean, TPS, and continuous‑improvement principles to eliminate waste and improve effectiveness.
  • Support the development of practical quality processes, metrics, and governance as AutoStore continues to scale.
Collaboration and Influence
  • Build effective relationships across departments to ensure alignment and timely decision‑making.
  • Balance customer expectations, technical realities, and business priorities when driving solutions.
  • Act as a trusted unbiased advisor and quality subject matter expert within cross‑functional teams.
Qualifications
Education
  • Degree in Engineering, Science, Computing, or a related technical discipline.
  • Training or certification in Quality Management, Continuous Improvement, or related methodologies is advantageous.
Experience
  • 4+ years of experience in quality engineering, manufacturing engineering, design engineering, or a similar technical role.
  • Experience leading complex cross‑functional investigations from problem identification through implementation of corrective actions.
  • Demonstrated success improving products, processes, or customer outcomes in a manufacturing, industrial, automation, or technology environment.
  • Practical experience applying Lean, TPS, Six Sigma, or comparable continuous‑improvement methodologies.
  • Experience working directly with customers, suppliers, or field operations is preferred.
Skills and Competencies
  • Strong analytical and structured problem‑solving skills.
  • Working knowledge of quality tools such as 8D, 5 Why, FMEA, risk assessment, Systematic Cause Analysis Technique (SCAT), and statistical analysis.
  • Comfortable working with imperfect data and ambiguity while maintaining focus on outcomes.
  • Able to establish practical solutions and progressively improve processes rather than pursue theoretical perfection.
  • Strong stakeholder management and influencing skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
We Offer
  • Comprehensive Medical, Dental, and Vision plans
  • Health Savings Account (HSA) with a company contribution
  • Generous Paid Time Off including 12 holidays, paid exercise time, paid volunteer time, and paid parental leave plans for all new parents
  • Retirement 401(k) plan with a 7% employer match
  • Educational assistance and professional development programs, including mentorship/coaching programs with external industry leaders
  • Additional benefits include Group Life Insurance, Voluntary Additional Life Insurance, Disability Insurance, Employee Assistance programs, and more!
