UC Riverside's Auxiliary Facilities Services is recruiting for a Senior Custodian. The Sr.

Custodian performs custodial tasks to care for campus facilities, including cleaning, dusting, stripping, waxing, sweeping, mopping, disinfecting and restrooms maintenance across multiple areas. This role may work independently or as part of a team, and requires ability to prioritize work orders and provide exemplary customer service to students, staff and faculty.

Qualifications

  • Six months of custodial/housekeeping experience.
  • High School Diploma is required.
  • Ability to prioritize work orders and work independently or in a team.
  • Ability to read, write and communicate in English.

Responsibilities

  • Clean, dust, strip, wax, sweep, mop, polish, and disinfect facilities.
  • Restroom replenishment and waste/recycling removal.
  • Maintain various floor surfaces and ensure safety.
  • Provide courteous service to students, staff and faculty.

Position Information

UC Riverside's Auxiliary Facilities Services is recruiting for a Senior Custodian. The full salary range for the Senior Custodian is $26.69 - $36.62 per hour. We base salary offers on a variety of considerations, such as education, licensure and certifications, experience, and other business and organizational needs. The Sr. Custodian performs a variety of custodial tasks to care, maintain, disinfect, sanitize, and preserve campus facilities. Responsible to clean, dust, strip, wax, sweep, mop, polish, disinfect, sanitize, wash, vacuum, replenish restrooms, and remove refuse/recycling throughout campus facilities, conference rooms, elevators, stairwells, offices, classrooms, laboratories, auditoriums, restrooms, lounges, hallways, residential facilities, exteriors, etc. May work independently or as a part of a team in assigned work areas. Maintains a positive attitude and communicates effectively with colleagues, supervisors, staff, faculty and students. Applicants must have current work authorization when accepting a UCR staff position. Currently, we are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment Visa for staff. As a University employee, you will be required to comply with all applicable University policies and/or collective bargaining agreements, as may be amended from time to time. Federal, state, or local government directives may impose additional requirements.

Six months of experience in custodial/housekeeping operations or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

  • Experience in safe use of a wide variety of equipment and machinery common to custodial services including, but not limited to; stripping/buffing machines, vacuums, steam pressure washers, wet/dry shop vacuums, carpet extractors (bonnet, dry, hydro extraction) cleaning machines, raiding flooring cleaning machines, squeegees, brushes, etc.
  • Experience in safe use of cleaning chemicals, their interactions, danger signs and disposal methods.
  • Experience in proper procedures for cleaning and maintaining a variety of floor surfaces including, but not limited to resilient tile floors, carpeted floors and terrazzo floors.
  • Prior experience and ability to prioritizing work orders, routine work, emergency requests, combined with the knowledge to choose the proper materials and equipment to accomplish the work in the most expeditious and safe manner.
  • Experience working with a diverse student, staff, faculty and visitor population and ability to provide exemplary customer service.
  • Experience in hospitality settings and/or customer-facing environments such as hotels, dormitories, or conference/event support.

  • Ability to read write and communicate effectively in the English language with co-workers, supervisors, and the general public. Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Knowledge, skill and ability to safely use of a wide variety of equipment and machinery common to custodial services including, but not limited to; stripping/buffing machines, vacuums, steam pressure washers, wet/dry shop vacuums, carpet extractors (bonnet, dry, hydro extraction) cleaning machines, raiding flooring cleaning machines, squeegees, brushes, etc.
  • Willingness and ability to work scheduled, unscheduled and emergency overtime.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule (weekends and holidays; early mornings, mornings, evening or graveyard shifts), as needed to accommodate campus event schedules.
  • Knowledge, skill and ability to safely use of cleaning chemicals and understand their interactions, danger signs and disposal methods.
  • Knowledge, skill and ability to apply and practice proper procedures for cleaning and maintaining a variety of floor surfaces including, but not limited to resilient tile floors, carpeted floors and terrazzo floors.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge and skill to use MS Office programs and email.
  • Knowledge and ability to use desktop computers, laptops, tablets, and other electronic devices.
  • Knowledge of UCR/UC policies, procedures and systems.
  • Ability to read and understand the proper use of Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS).
  • Basic knowledge in safe and proper procedures when hazardous materials are suspected; knowledge of safe and proper methods to clean up and dispose of biohazards and chemicals such as rodent droppings, vomit, blood, raw sewage or chemicals.
  • Knowledge of applicable federal and state regulations governing areas related to the responsibilities of the job, including SB-198 Illness and Injury Prevention Program (IIPP).
