Qualifications

• Law degree and Texas State Bar admission in good standing.
• 1 year of experience in family, probate, civil or criminal litigation.
• Strong knowledge of applicable laws, procedures, and policies.
• Ability to work under pressure and maintain professionalism.
• Strong analytical, diplomatic, and judgment skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication with courts and agencies.
• Proficient with MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
• Commitment to confidentiality and professional ethics.
• Strong relationship-building with County staff, attorneys, investigators, police, and citizens.

Responsibilities

• Represents the McLennan County Criminal District Attorney in litigation and negotiations.
• Reviews case files, exhibits, and documents; confers with opposing counsel and the Court.
• Researches legal issues and cites authorities; conducts independent research.
• Appears in court to select juries, present and cross-examine evidence, advocate for the State.
• Prepares witnesses and counsels with clients, victims, or police.
• Decides to dismiss or proceed with charges and negotiates pleas.
• Prepares memoranda detailing issues and recommended action.
• Negotiates settlements; informs self-represented litigants.
• Assists in daily office operations, training, mentoring staff and interns.
• Recommends policies and advances knowledge in legal areas.
• Maintains knowledge of current legal developments.
• Regular attendance and timeliness.
