Block is seeking a senior ML/AI specialist to own underwriting models for Cash App Borrow and Afterpay credit products. You will design calibration-aware decision systems, run experiments, and communicate results to senior leaders.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a quantitative field; advanced degrees welcome.
• 10+ years applying AI/ML or statistical modeling in decisioning contexts.
• Experience with probabilistic models, calibration, and interpretation of outputs.
• Strong experimentation skills and holdout design.
• Experience with model monitoring and retraining strategies in production.
• Proficiency with AI-native development workflows and AI tooling.
• Ability to explain modeling concepts to senior stakeholders.
• Experience working across disciplined teams under constraints.

Responsibilities

• Build, evaluate, and maintain underwriting models for credit products.
• Design and evolve credit decision frameworks, policy logic, and risk exposure.
• Run experiments to measure lift, impact on approvals, and losses.
• Develop understanding of borrower behavior and portfolio structure.
• Explain model behavior and tradeoffs to senior leaders.
• Oversee full modeling lifecycle from problem formulation to deployment.
• Build agentic engineering workflows to speed development and testing.
• Collaborate with Product, Engineering, Legal, Compliance, and Operations.
• Share modeling context and approaches across teams; shape tooling adoption.
