This role requires someone who can independently assess creditworthiness, identify potential risks, and clearly communicate the rationale behind credit recommendations.

Senior Credit Analyst Responsibilities

  • Analyze and spread financial statements, business and personal tax returns, audited financials, and other supporting documentation to assess borrower creditworthiness.
  • Evaluate cash flow, liquidity, leverage, debt service coverage, profitability, and other key financial ratios to determine repayment capacity and financial stability.
  • Interpret financial results to develop a comprehensive understanding of a borrower's business model, operating performance, industry position, and financial trends.
  • Identify financial risks, inconsistencies, and potential red flags, including adjustments that may affect financial ratios, risk ratings, and credit decisions.
  • Prepare and review credit analyses, underwriting summaries, and recommendations supporting new credit requests, renewals, and credit limit decisions.
  • Utilize credit risk assessment tools, including Moody's RiskCalc or comparable platforms, to evaluate borrower risk and support underwriting recommendations.
  • Navigate commercial lending and credit systems to understand how financial information flows through the underwriting process and impacts credit calculations.
  • Apply internal credit policies, underwriting standards, and risk guidelines to ensure consistent and well-supported credit decisions.
  • Communicate findings and recommendations clearly to internal stakeholders, explaining the financial story behind the numbers and the associated credit risks.

  • Thorough understanding of commercial credit fundamentals, including cash flow analysis, leverage, liquidity, debt service coverage, and repayment capacity.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret financial information, identify trends and risk factors, and explain how a company's financial performance affects its creditworthiness.
  • Experience preparing credit analyses and supporting lending or credit limit decisions.
  • Strong analytical judgment, attention to detail, and ability to work independently through complex financial information.
