Job summary

CASES in New York, NY is seeking a Senior Peer Specialist to provide rapid crisis response for individuals leaving arraignments. The role supports clients in distress with peer support and immediate referrals, delivering direct service in crisis and creative engagement.

The position includes building community behavioral health and employment relationships. The Rapid Response Treatment initiative aims to serve those in the Supervised Release Program with comprehensive support.

Qualifications

• Minimum five years of experience in human services with individuals with serious mental illness and co-occurring substance use disorders.
• Excellent organizational and time-management abilities.
• Flexible schedule to provide service 365 days per year.
• Able to commute on public transit and visit participants in homes/community spaces.

Responsibilities

• Provide peer support to clients leaving arraignments and criminal court parts.
• Prepare immediate referrals to reduce distress (hospitals, detoxes, rehabs, intake at CASES).
• Complete monthly trainings to bring innovative solutions to engaging hard-to-reach clients.
• Assist staff who work in courtroom and community settings.
• Provide recovery-oriented, trauma-informed and gender-responsive services.
• Perform direct service with clients after release and follow up as needed.
• Assess clients’ immediate needs and develop service plans.
• Provide transitional support to connect clients to home, shelters, or treatment programs.
• Motivate clients to link with behavioral health and human services.
