Job summary

The City of Indianapolis and Marion County is seeking a Senior Counseling Attorney to handle a broad range of general legal matters for City-County agencies. You will prepare contracts, leases, and ordinances; provide advisory opinions; and represent clients at Board and Commission meetings.

Ideal candidates hold a JD and Indiana bar license with several years in counseling or local government, demonstrating strong research, writing, and oral advocacy skills, with a commitment to public service

Qualifications

• Doctor of Jurisprudence (J.D.) from an ABA-accredited law school.
• Valid license to practice law in Indiana.
• Proficiency in legal research tools, including Westlaw.
• At least three (3) years’ experience as a licensed attorney or two (2) years’ experience as a Counseling attorney with OCC.

Responsibilities

• Represent City-County agencies in Board or Commission meetings or similar settings.
• Prepare advisory opinions and memos on general legal matters.
• Draft contracts, leases, ordinances, and resolutions.
• Research and answer general legal questions for client agencies.
• Provide guidance on compliance with laws and avoidance of litigation risk.
