Job summary

Albemarle in Charlotte, North Carolina seeks an experienced Associate General Counsel – Litigation & HSE to manage complex litigation, regulatory disputes, and environmental matters. This senior role provides strategic, risk-based advice, oversees outside counsel, and protects the company’s commercial and governance interests.

You will lead pre-litigation efforts, work with stakeholders, and support corporate governance and compliance as needed.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school.
• Active license to practice law and good standing in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
• Minimum of 10 years of litigation experience in diverse settings.
• Significant experience managing complex civil litigation and regulatory matters.
• Ability to develop litigation strategy, supervise outside counsel, and advise senior stakeholders.
• Understanding of discovery, privilege, preservation, and dispute resolution processes.

Responsibilities

• Manage a portfolio of complex civil litigation, arbitration, regulatory, administrative, and pre-litigation matters for the Company and affiliates.
• Develop and execute litigation strategies aligned with legal and business objectives.
• Supervise outside counsel, including budgets, case strategy, and performance.
• Provide risk-based advice on litigation exposure, settlements, and regulatory risk to internal clients.
• Lead pre-litigation dispute resolution efforts and negotiations.
• Identify and mitigate litigation, HSE, environmental, and regulatory risks across operations.
