Qualifications

  • Juris Doctorate with excellent academic credentials and 3+ years of progressively responsible experience in relevant practice areas.
  • Admission to the Florida Bar or willingness to take the Florida Bar Exam within a short period after starting employment.
  • Experience in FINRA arbitrations and securities litigation is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provides legal review and represents the organization on litigation matters.
  • Manages a portfolio of litigation matters, primarily FINRA customer arbitrations, and collaborates with senior in-house litigators.
  • Coordinates with outside counsel as required.
  • Drafts documents and performs legal research related to litigation matters.
  • Maintains currency in legal issues in litigation.
  • Provides advice and recommendations to senior management on litigation matters.
  • Works with outside counsel on litigation matters and regulatory issues.
  • Prepares and delivers written and oral presentations to management on litigation matters.
  • Leads and mentors others and fosters teamwork across the organization.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Description Summary

Under direction but with a high level of autonomy, uses knowledge and skills obtained through education and experience to manage or assist with a variety of litigation matters with a significant focus on securities-related matters in FINRA's arbitration forum and in federal and state courts. Will maintain and manage a caseload and will also work collaboratively on matters with more experienced in-house litigators, and will develop strategy, prepare answers to statements of claim or complaints, engage in discovery and motion practice, engage in settlement negotiations and mediations, and conduct arbitration final hearings. In addition to the foregoing, will manage outside counsel in significant litigation matters and will provide litigation-related legal advice across the Raymond James entities. Will also have extensive contact with internal clients, senior management and outside counsel. The position is located at the corporate headquarters in St. Petersburg, Florida, and currently requires working in the office on at least 3 days.

Job Description

Knowledge of:
  • Advanced concepts, principles and practices of laws and regulations impacting financial institutions and broker/dealers, including those related to FINRA's arbitration forum and federal and state courts.
  • Advanced principles of banking, finance, and securities industry operations.
  • Advanced principles of financial markets and products.
Skill in:
  • Managing a heavy volume of litigation matters.
  • Collaborating with more experienced lawyers.

Education/Previous Experience
  • Juris Doctorate with excellent academic credentials and minimum of three (3) year of progressively responsible experience in relevant practice area(s) (law firm and/or in-house in a related area involving financial services industry preferred).
