Requires a J.D. or LL.M. with at least seven years of direct legal experience, including representation of higher education entities.

Responsibilities

Provides comprehensive guidance and advice with direction from the General Counsel and Deputy General Counsel to University administrators, faculty, and staff on legal issues of all types, including but not limited to discrimination and civil rights, faculty, staff, and student issues, labor and employment, compliance, contracts, and administrative proceedings.
Reviews requests for information maintained by the University of Houston System and its component institutions, assesses which items should be responded to and which are objectionable.
Attends meetings, depositions, mediations, witness interviews, and hearings.
Represents the University of Houston System and its component institutions in administrative and legal matters and proceedings.
Serves as a liaison with administrative agencies in legal matters.
Interacts with opposing counsels and courts.
Drafts documents, letters, policies, legislation, and other legal materials.
Trains administrators on specific legal issues.
Performs other job-related duties as required.
