Job summary

Ashurst Perkins Coie LLP is seeking a highly motivated counsel-level attorney to join our Projects, Energy, Environment & Resources practice group. You will lead high-stakes matters at the nexus of large-scale digital infrastructure and the energy transition, drafting and negotiating key energy agreements.

You will work with nationally and globally recognized partners, manage complex transactions with minimal oversight, and contribute to growing a strong practice within a global law firm.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of experience in energy law.
• Proven ability to manage complex transactions and regulatory filings from inception to completion with minimal partner supervision.
• Deep knowledge of the Federal Power Act, wholesale power markets, and power transaction structures.
• JD from an accredited law school.
• Must be admitted to practice (or eligible to waive in) to the jurisdiction of office location.

Responsibilities

• Lead Data Center Power Transactions: take the first chair in drafting and negotiating bespoke power purchase agreements and energy service agreements for developers, utilities and corporate buyers.
• Market Design & RTO/ISOs: advise on complex electric market design issues within RTOs/ISOs including PJM, MISO, SPP, ERCOT and CAISO.
• FERC regulatory: represent clients before the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission and advise on compliance with market-based rate programs and related rules.
• Federal energy policy: counsel on energy policy, renewable integration, and carbon-free procurement strategies.
• Practice development: contribute to client relationship management and the firm’s thought leadership in digital infrastructure and energy transition; mentor associates.
