Job summary

Barry-Wehmiller's BW Design Group is seeking an Associate General Counsel to lead contract negotiation and risk management on design-build and EPC projects. You will serve as trusted counsel to project teams, draft and negotiate complex agreements, and oversee risk and insurance programs across our architecture, engineering, and construction management entities.

Qualifications

• JD from an accredited law school.
• Licensed to practice in at least one U.S. state.
• 5+ years in legal experience ideally with an Architecture, Engineering & Construction firm.
• Skilled in drafting and negotiating design-build, EPC, and CM contracts.
• Working knowledge of construction insurance, including professional liability.
• Willing to travel up to 15%.

Responsibilities

• Review and negotiate design, EPC, design-build, and construction management contracts.
• Draft and modify AIA, EJCDC, ConsensusDocs, DBIA, and owner-drafted forms.
• Lead negotiations with Executive Team, Project Leadership, and Procurement.
• Maintain the firm's contract and template library.
• Shape risk mitigation strategy with the Project Team.
• Advise on project selection risk and delivery methodology.
• Support business development through proactive contract terms and direct client engagement.
• Guide teams through the project lifecycle — kickoff to close-out.
• Manage disputes: client discussions, liens, mediation, arbitration, litigation, settlements.
• Coordinate with insurers and outside counsel.
