Job summary

The Travelers Indemnity Company is seeking a Senior Counsel in Phoenix, AZ to independently handle high-exposure and complex litigation matters arising from insurance defense. The role emphasizes strong trial advocacy, strategic case analysis and collaboration with partners to deliver excellent client service.

Ideal candidates have 7+ years of insurance defense litigation experience, a JD, and an active license.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctorate or equivalent; licensed to practice law in required state(s).
• 7+ years of experience as a practicing attorney in insurance defense litigation.
• Active license in good standing to practice law in the state(s) of representation.
• Regularly handles hearings, trials, dispositive motions and depositions; ability to travel as needed.

Responsibilities

• Handle a caseload of higher exposure, complex litigation matters including Major Case and Complex Claim matters.
• Apply trial experience to try cases to verdict or negotiate resolutions.
• Conduct advanced legal research and produce persuasive writing and presentations.
• Draft substantive pleadings, motions, briefs, discovery and other documents.
• Attend court events, depositions and appointments independently.
• Provide case analysis and recommendations to insured clients and claim partners.
• Collaborate with expert witnesses and consultants on case strategies.
• Mentor and lead junior attorneys and legal support staff.
