Job summary

NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund, Inc. (LDF) seeks an experienced Senior Counsel to join the Litigation Department and lead civil rights cases across federal and state courts, as well as administrative bodies.

The role emphasizes strategic oversight of complex matters, mentoring teams, and public leadership for Black communities. The successful candidate will report to the Director or Deputy Director of Litigation and operate in a hybrid workplace requiring in-office presence at least

Qualifications

Juris Doctor degree required.
Minimum of 10 years of litigation experience.
Admission to the New York, Washington, D.C. or Georgia Bar or eligibility to waive in based on office location.
Commitment to racial justice mission of LDF.
Outstanding legal research, writing, and oral advocacy skills.
Broad litigation experience at trial and appellate levels; class action experience preferred.

Responsibilities

Litigate racial justice issues across federal/state courts and agencies.
Lead and supervise case teams and manage litigation strategy.
Draft petitions for certiorari, merits briefs and amicus briefs for high-impact cases.
Oversee discovery, motions, hearings, trials, and appeals.
Develop and implement policy advocacy in coordination with the policy team.
Represent LDF in media, conferences, and public forums.
