Job summary

Sotheby’s Financial Services (SFS) is seeking a business-minded attorney to join its U.S. legal team in New York City. The role focuses on loans backed by fine art and collectibles, consignment advances, and related transactions in the U.S. and abroad.

The attorney will draft and negotiate agreements, provide transactional advice, perform due diligence, and contribute to process improvements and playbooks. Strong drafting, communication and risk assessment skills are essential.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of relevant legal experience in banking/finance, preferably in-house.
• Bachelor’s Degree and JD; admitted to NY State bar.
• Strong multitasking, prioritization and timely follow-through in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Draft, review and negotiate loan, security and related agreements.
• Provide legal advice on structuring finance transactions backed by art and collectibles.
• Conduct due diligence and facilitate transaction closings.
• Develop playbooks, templates and best practices for the SFS legal function.
• Ensure documents comply with applicable laws and internal policies.
• Collaborate with internal teams and lead trainings on legal issues.
• Negotiate with borrowers, outside counsel and counterparties.
