Job summary

Sotheby’s Financial Services is seeking a business-minded attorney to support the SFS U.S. legal team on loans backed by fine art assets and related financings. Based in New York City, you will draft, negotiate and close transactions, advise on structuring finance deals and help scale legal processes globally.

Ideal candidates have 5+ years of banking/finance law experience, a JD, and NY bar admission. Strong drafting, communication and multitasking skills are essential for this role.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of relevant legal experience, preferably in-house.
• Strong drafting, communication, analytical and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to multitask, prioritize and manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Draft, review and negotiate agreements including term loan and revolving credit facilities, security documents and guarantees.
• Provide legal advice on structuring finance transactions backed by art assets for clients across jurisdictions.
• Conduct due diligence and facilitate transaction closings.
• Contribute to playbooks, templates and operational best practices.
• Ensure policies and documents reflect negotiated terms and comply with laws.
• Partner to identify opportunities for process improvement and scalability.
• Lead trainings for business partners on legal issues.
• Negotiate with borrowers, outside counsel and counterparties.
• Provide additional legal support as directed by the General Counsel.
