Job Overview:

The Senior Cost Analyst utilizes the STRATA Cost Accounting application to process general ledger, payroll, and statistical data, developing consistent costing models across the enterprise. A comprehensive understanding of GL expenses, overhead allocation methods, and expense-to-revenue alignment is essential to accurately calculate service costs for analyzing financial performance and comparing procedural costs system-wide.

This role reports to the Manager of Decision Support and collaborates with the Decision Support team. It offers a hybrid remote work arrangement with potential travel between RWJBarnabas Health locations.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance/Accounting
  • 3-5 years experience in Healthcare Cost Accounting
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and strong analytical skills
  • Attention to detail and ability to analyze large data sets and present insights effectively

Preferred:

  • Master's Degree
  • Experience with Strata Cost Accounting Application
Scheduling Requirements:

Hybrid remote work with travel between RWJBarnabas Health locations as needed.

Essential Job Functions:
  • Maintain cost accounting rules for each facility to ensure consistent handling of expenses and proper expense-revenue alignment
  • Develop processes for timely GL cost updates and cross-site consistency
  • Maintain department mapping tables, GL account rules, payroll and overhead allocation rules to ensure proper cost allocation
  • Communicate with site finance managers to understand GL expenses, research changes, and review costing results
  • Reconcile GL revenue to charge data within Strata to ensure accuracy and alignment
  • Prepare reconciliation work papers for financial statements and audit purposes
  • Conduct weekly audits of costing results for encounter data completeness
  • Participate in user group discussions to stay updated on system enhancements and industry trends
  • Develop costing models for new entities and train staff on cost accounting modules
  • Generate reports for ad hoc requests with accuracy and timeliness
