Job summary

Qualifications

• High school diploma and relevant experience required.
• Bachelor's degree in a related field may substitute for the required experience.
• Must be certified by the SCDC Training Academy and successfully complete the basic supervisory course within six months of entry.

Responsibilities

• Supervise subordinate security assigned to housing units and inmate custody and control.
• Make routine inspections of living areas for security, safety, and sanitation compliance.
• Conduct investigations of alleged misconduct by inmates and security personnel.
• Assist in conducting formal and informal counts.
• Supervise job performance, conduct, and appearance; prepare evaluations.
• Counsel, recommend disciplinary action, and train staff to required standards.
• Prepare reports as needed.
• Perform duties of Shift Lieutenant when necessary.
• Position assigned to Restricted Housing Unit (RHU).
