Job summary

State of South Carolina is seeking a security supervisor to plan, coordinate and direct the actions of the security staff in a medium security facility. You will oversee security, custody and control of inmates and ensure OSHA standards are met.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• Three years of experience in correctional, security, military, or police work with one year of supervisory experience.
• A degree in criminal justice or related field may substitute for supervisory experience year for year (associate and above = 1 year).
• Must be certified by the SCDC training academy and complete the basic supervisory course within six months of entry.

Responsibilities

• Plans, coordinates and directs the actions of the security staff and oversees security, custody and control of inmates.
• Assumes primary responsibility for security of all buildings and public property.
• Makes routine checks to ensure duties are performed properly and OSHA standards are maintained.
• Assists with all inmate counts for accuracy.
• Investigates complaints and violations; arbitrates disputes among inmate population and staff.
• Assigned to Restricted Housing Unit (RHU).
