Job summary

City of Hampton seeks a Corrections Supervisor to oversee the Hampton Sheriff’s Office Corrections Division on a full-time basis. You will supervise staff, manage daily operations of the facility, and ensure safety and security for staff, inmates, and the public in line with laws, policies, and accreditation standards.

Reporting to a Lieutenant, the role requires firearms qualification and at-will employment.

Qualifications

• Must have DCJS Certification.
• Minimum of one year of experience in the correctional field.
• Must pass a background check before offer or promotion.
• This safety-sensitive position requires alcohol and controlled substance testing.
• Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license with satisfactory driving record.

Responsibilities

• Supervise, train, evaluate, and discipline correctional staff; act as senior Field Training Officer (FTO).
• Assign and monitor work duties; conduct rounds and inspections for readiness.
• Oversee inmate custody, care, and control including intake, housing, movement, transport, and release.
• Respond to emergencies such as disturbances, medical incidents, fires, and suicide prevention events.
• Conduct security checks, searches, and inspections of facilities, equipment, vehicles, and inmates.
• Review and approve reports, logs, and grievances; maintain inmate records.
• Verify court documents, warrants, detainers, and related paperwork.
• Supervise inmate work details and oversee supplies, sanitation, and maintenance.
• Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information; perform Corrections Deputy duties as required.
• Maintain regular attendance and perform other duties as assigned.
