Job summary

The State of South Carolina Department of Corrections is seeking personnel to oversee contraband interdiction and intelligence gathering within the correctional system. The role involves performing searches, assisting K-9 units, and ensuring proper logging and custody procedures are followed to safeguard evidence.

Applicants must have a high school diploma (or equivalent) and meet the State and SCDC minimum requirements, including training and supervisory experience as applicable.

Responsibilities

• Under general supervision of the Warden will be responsible for all contraband interdiction efforts and the gathering of correctional intelligence.
• Conducts routine, unannounced, and/or pre-scheduled searches and shakedowns of inmates, living areas, grounds, and other areas.
• Assists the agency search team, special operations k-9 unit, and division of police services k-9 teams while they are onsite.
• Be knowledgeable of the logging and accountability process of contraband items.
• Completes necessary training to perform drug testing of all inmates and confiscated drugs.
• Ensures that all policies, rules, and regulations pertaining to the chain of custody are followed and that all evidence/contraband confiscated is logged in on the "unauthorized property log".
• Conducts at least monthly inspections/searches of all roof tops for weapons/contraband.
• Gathers information from institutional staff and inmates concerning possible contraband violations.
• Responsible for any other duties assigned by the Warden(s).
• Must successfully complete eight (8) weeks of SCDC Basic Training upon hire.
