The NC Department of Adult Correction is seeking a Correctional Sergeant II (S) to supervise Correctional Officer IIs at a medium custody male facility. The role includes assigning staff, evaluating performance, coordinating shift coverage, and ensuring custody, security, and welfare of offenders.

This is a full-time, 40-hour-per-week position with potential weekend and holiday shifts to maintain 24/7 staff coverage.

Formación

• Two years six months of experience as a Correctional Officer, OR two years of experience as Correctional Officer II (or equivalent).
• Must be eligible for certification by the N.C. Criminal Justice Education and Training and Standards Commission.
• All applicants must meet Criminal Justice Standards requirements (12 NCAC 09G .0302).

Responsabilidades

• Assign lower level custody staff to an area or post.
• Evaluate and oversee officer activities and performance and ensure custody, security, and welfare of offenders.
• Coordinate work schedules to ensure shift coverage, implement standard operating procedures and ensure rules and regulations are followed per policy.
• Manage a facility when highest-ranking custody staff is on premises or acts as Officer-in-Charge (OIC).
• Ensure staff are trained and that proper conduct and procedures are followed.
• Maintain facility security through regular inspections and compliance with regulations.
• Respond to distress codes, escapes, and transport of offenders; communicate instructions during emergencies, drills, and searches.
• Conduct and/or supervise searches of offenders, living areas, and work areas for contraband.
• Investigate and act on security issues, incidents, disputes, and complaints.
• Prepare, review reports and complete performance evaluations on subordinate staff.
