Job summary

Oklahoma State Penitentiary seeks a Sergeant to lead security operations and supervise inmate movement within a state corrections facility. You will perform counts, searches, and enforce rules, while coordinating with teams to maintain order and safety.

A strong firearms and report-writing background is valued. Requirements include being at least 20 years old, 30 college hours or a high school diploma with approved training, and 24 months of correctional/security experience.

Qualifications

• Minimum age 20 years.
• Possession of 30 semester hours from an accredited college or university; or a high school diploma/GED with training approved by the Department.
• Twenty-four months of correctional or security experience for a governmental or private correctional agency.
• GED requirements per Oklahoma rules.
• Applicants subject to testing/evaluations to determine fitness for the position.

Responsibilities

• Provide security and supervision to inmates and work crews; escort, inventory, and control equipment and keys.
• Patrol assigned areas; observe activities; manage inmate conduct and discipline.
• Maintain order during meals and recreation; inspect areas for contraband; report incidents.
• Operate security equipment; ensure controlled movement of inmates, staff, and the public.
• Conduct inmate counts; search for contraband; enforce rules and regulations.
• Prepare written reports on inmate behavior and status; participate in incident responses.
