Job summary

Gateway Fiber is seeking a Senior Network Engineer to own and operate the core, aggregation, and peering networks in the Greater St. Louis area.

You will drive routing architectures, capacity planning, and peering strategies across BGP, IS-IS, OSPFv3, and MPLS, while building automation, monitoring, and tooling to scale a growing residential and business network. The role requires 8+ years in carrier-grade routing, deep expertise in BGP and routing policy, and comfort with Juniper MX/JUNOS.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of carrier-grade Layer 3 core routing experience in an ISP/service provider
• Deep production expertise with BGP (eBGP/iBGP), route reflection, communities
• Experience with IS-IS, OSPFv3, MPLS and multicast in large-scale networks
• Automation and scripting with Python/Ansible or similar tools
• Ability to read packet captures and troubleshoot under network pressure

Responsibilities

• Design, deploy, and maintain Layer 3 core, aggregation, and peering networks
• Develop routing architectures and policies across BGP, IS-IS, OSPFv3, MPLS
• Plan capacity, peering, and transit changes and forecast growth
• Mentor engineers and operations staff
• Build automation, monitoring, and tooling for reliable operation
• Serve as escalation point for complex routing issues
• Write standards, SOPs, and documentation for safe changes
