Job summary

Gateway Fiber is seeking a Senior Network Engineer to own Gateway’s Layer 3 core, aggregation, and peering network. You’ll design routing architectures, implement BGP/IS-IS/OSPFv3/MPLS policies, and drive automation to support rapid growth.

Ideal candidates have 8+ years in carrier-grade routing, strong Juniper/Cisco experience, and a passion for scalable, secure networks. You’ll mentor teammates, collaborate across departments, and influence how the network is built and operated at a growing

Qualifications

• 8+ years of hands-on experience in carrier-grade Layer 3 core routing, architecture, design, and implementation inside an ISP or comparable service provider network.
• Deep production expertise with BGP, including eBGP and iBGP, route reflection, communities, and routing policy, along with peering and transit management.
• Juniper JUNOS and MX Series core routers preferred; equivalent Cisco or other carrier-class core platform experience will be considered.
• Demonstrated experience in network automation and scripting with Python, Ansible, or similar tooling.
• IS-IS and OSPFv3 at scale, plus multicast and common WAN protocols.
• IPv4 and IPv6 numbering, aggregation, and allocation, including dual-stack deployment experience.
• Experience in Enterprise and Carrier Ethernet switching in both metro and long-haul networks.
• Calix GPON, XGS-PON, and AXOS access platforms are a plus.
• Layer 1 transport, DWDM, CWDM, and optical transceivers are a plus.
• Working knowledge of both Unix/Linux and Windows.
• The ability to read packet captures and resolve subtle routing and forwarding problems while the network is under pressure.
• Exceptional attention to detail, sound change discipline, and advanced problem-resolution skills.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with genuine enthusiasm for the internet, its growth, and the technologies behind it.
• JNCIP or JNCIE, CCNP or CCIE Service Provider, or a comparable certification is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Design, deploy, and maintain Gateway’s Layer 3 core, aggregation, and peering network as we add 100,000 residential and business passings each year.
• Develop and maintain routing architectures and policies across BGP, IS-IS, OSPFv3, and MPLS domains.
• Plan and execute capacity, peering, and transit changes, and forecast where the network needs to grow before growth becomes a problem.
• Act as the senior escalation point for complex core routing, MPLS, and transport issues, working them through to root cause and permanent fix.
• Build automation, monitoring, and tooling that lets a small team operate a large network reliably.
• Write and maintain standards, methods of procedure, and documentation that keep changes safe, repeatable, and easy to hand off.
• Serve as an internal resource to other departments on issue resolution, customer communication, and general network education.
• Mentor engineers and operations staff, sharing what you know and raising the technical bar across the team.
