Job summary

Lutheran Social Service MN is seeking a Senior Cook to prepare meals for congregate dining, Meals on Wheels, and bulk shipments to satellite sites. You will follow LSS menus and recipes, manage orders, and support sanitation and safety across kitchen and dining areas.

The role emphasizes supervision, training, and collaboration with site managers, staff, and volunteers to ensure timely, quality meal delivery in the local community.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 1 year experience in a full-service kitchen in a long-term care facility, school, or restaurant.
• Ability to follow standardized recipes and convert measurements to the required number of meals.
• Ability to train, supervise, and direct site staff and volunteers.

Responsibilities

As a Senior Cook, you will prepare quality meals using LSS menus and recipes to serve to congregate, Meals on Wheels (MOW) and to ship in bulk to satellite sites.You will order and receive food and supplies, direct kitchen/dining room cleaning and sanitation and work with site manager(s), kitchen staff, and volunteers to ensure a smooth delivery system. You will also provide direction, supervision, and training to kitchen staff and assist with hiring new staff.

Job Requirements:

• A minimum of one year of experience in a full-service kitchen in a long term care facility, school, or restaurant.
• Knowledge of quantity cooking: the ability to follow standardized recipes and convert measurements to accommodate the number of meals needed.
• Knowledge of all kitchen equipment and utensils usage.
• Knowledge of Health Department regulations.
• Ability to follow written and oral instructions, train, supervise, and direct site staff and volunteers.
• ServSafe® Food Protection Manager Certification; may be obtained after hire.
