Job summary

Socket.dev is seeking an experienced Controls Engineer in Michigan to design, implement, and troubleshoot safety and operational controls for semi-automatic and automatic manufacturing equipment.

You will specify components, document schematics, and program PLCs (Allen Bradley Studio 5000) while collaborating with Automation Engineering and Maintenance to ensure regulatory compliance and high-quality production.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, computer science, or related field.
• 5+ years as a machine builder, controls engineer or related.
• PLC programming with a focus on Allen Bradley and Studio 5000.
• Experience with VFDs and servo controllers.
• Experience creating electrical and fluid schematics.
• Experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Strong system design, implementation, testing and maintenance background.
• Experience with Functional Safety standards.

Responsibilities

• Design safety and operational controls for equipment and troubleshoot issues.
• Specify components and document control systems in drawings and specs.
• Program PLC controllers and document ladder logic diagrams.
• Collaborate with Automation Engineering and Maintenance to meet standards.
• Create equipment specifications for GUI/communication interfaces and networking.
• Coordinate with production planning on electrical work and installations.
• Develop operator instruction manuals.
• Mentor less experienced engineers and perform other duties.
